The Alberta Solar Decathlon was initiated in February 2007 when a small contingent of students at the University of Calgary came together with the idea of entering the 2009 Solar Decathlon Competition.
In September of that year, the group formally brought on SAIT Polytechnic and Mount Royal University as partners to the project when each of the institutions President’s signed the Memorandum of Understanding. In June 2008, the team welcomed the Alberta College of Art and Design as an official partner to the project and signed the institution into the agreement.
The Alberta Solar Decathlon team is now a unique and dynamic collaboration of over110 students, faculty and staff from Calgary’s four leading post-secondary schools: the University of Calgary, SAIT Polytechnic, Mount Royal University and the Alberta College of Art + Design.
