Solar Thermal
Solar thermal systems capture the sun’s energy and convert it to heat for domestic hot water heating and for space heating (see the HVAC section for our solar assisted heat pump system). The SolAbode uses three Zen 42P and two Sunbank SB10 collectors; these panels are offered in sizes that fit well with our design concept. The collectors are flat plate solar collectors, as opposed to evacuated tube collectors. Flat plate collectors are less expensive upfront, more durable and cheaper to repair should they be damaged (like in a hail storm). The panels are façade mounted and have a vertical orientation. This ensures adequate heat collection in the winter months when the sun is very low in the sky.
